SILT PUBLIC WORKS

The Silt Public Works Department would like to express our thanks to all of you that help us in the struggle of snow removal.  Whether it is the city streets or a private parcel, snow removal is always a challenge.  The town crew will try their best to prevent their efforts from compunding yours.  However, it is not always possible to keep from plowing snow in front of your driveway or parked car.

The sander trucks have a priority list so that the areas that pose the greatest hazard are sanded first.  Of course, each snow presents a different scenario and when we have equipment problems sometimes priorities and plans evolve into nothing more than good intentions!

Please have patience.  We strive to do the best job possible with the time and equipment available.  We appreciate your cooperation and have a few suggestions that could improve the overall process.  When snow is forecast, park off the street when ever possible.  When the plows and sanders are operating, keep a large distance between you and the truck to prevent accidents or damage from the sanders.  Bear in mind that the plow trucks can stop much quicker than the average vehicle and the sanding equipment may be started at any time.  Follow no closer than a minimum of three car-lenghts. And please for everyone's safety, equip your vehicle with good winter tires.

 HOME IMPROVEMENTS

To all home owners within the Town of Silt:

Please be aware that most home improvement projects do require a building permit.  Sprinlker systems, sheds, fences, re-roofing and re-siding all require a building permit.  Please contact the Community Development Department to find out the permitting requirements BEFORE you begin any project.  Note that permit fees double if you do work without a permit.  Applications for building permits are available in the Town Hall at 231 N. 7th Street and are available online at http://www.townofsilt.org/.  Anyone who wishes to review permitting requirements can also look in our Municipal Code 15.05 which is also online.

FROM THE TOWN CLERK

Wow-another year has gone by.  Remember now that we have been getting a little snow now and then, according to the Silt municipal Code Chapter 12.04, that "the owner or occupant of any lot, tact or parcel of ground within the town having a sidewalk along or adjacent to any boundary thereof shall cause all snow and ice to be removed from the sidewalk within twenty-four hours from the time of the last accretion of such snow or ice upon the sidewalk".  Please help to keep your sidewalks clear so that nobody is at risk of slipping and falling.

Also, the new 2008 dog licenses are in.  Don't forget to get your dogs licensed at Town Hall.  According to the Silt Municipal Code Chapter 6.04, "it shall be the duty of every person who owns or harbors any dog or dogs, cat or cats in the town to have such dog or dogs, cat or cats inoculated by a regularly licensed veterinarian of the state of Colorado and to obtain a certificate from that veterinarian, setting out the fact of such vaccination, and also to obtain from the town clerk a license for each dog".  Just bring in your proof of shots and a license will be issued to you.  Licenses are renewable the first of every year and expire on December 31st .  Fees for licensing are $10.00 for spayed or neutered, and $25.00 it they are not.
