       Ambulance Subscriptions

For $50.00 a year, any household in the Silt West Care Ambulance response area can purchase an ambulance subscription.

Ambulance Subscriptions will be available during the month of March, the SiltWest Care Ambulance team will be going door to door and trying to meet their community and sharing information about the subscription program.

The Subscription program was designed to assist our community by offering a secondary coverage program to help with the cost of ambula
nce expenses not covered by an insurance when a 911 Silt ambulance is needed.

For more information call the Silt West Care Ambulance office at 876-0510 or sign up for a subscription at Silt Town Hall Monday thru Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Silt West Care Ambulance
provides two imperative community services:

Volunteer 911 Emergency Call Response

Hospital-Directed Transport

Our 911 calls cover the Town of Silt, an area of approximately 300 square miles, including eight miles of I-70, with the remaining area consisting of numerous city streets and rural county roads.  Our purpose is to provide basic and advanced life support tools, technology and training to stabilize, treat and safely transport the seriously ill and injured.

We currently have five licensed ambulances, three of which are equipped for advanced life support.  We average one to two 911 calls per day and two to three transport calls per day.  Our office is located at 231 N 7th Street in Silt.  Two of our ambulances are kept at the Silt Firehouse on Main Street.

We need you...volunteer today!

We offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity.....a chance to make a real difference in our community.  Silt West Care Ambulance currently has thirteen active EMT's, four EMT-I's, seven paramedic's, four nurse's and four drivers to service our growing community 24 hours a day, seven days per week.  A 911 emergency call often requires two EMT's and one driver.  Our service operates on two 12 hour shifts per day.  By volunteering just two shifts per week, you would make an immediate impact on the safety of our community.

Many people are drawn to the call of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), but may feel anxious about their ability to handle trauma or medical emergencies.  Unless you have had prior experience in EMS, we suggest that you start out as a driver with CPR certification and see how you fit into the EMS experience.   Many of us have found that we want more....to continue on to become an EMT Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic.  Once you become a full member of our squad, the Town of Silt will pay for all levels of training from First Responder to Paramedic.  In addition, we are now able to pay volunteers for their hourly time when responding to a 911 call.

If patient care and Rescue is not for you, we offer opportunities for you to expand and maintain your valuable skills in administration/management, data entry/clerical, vehicle & equipment upkeep, building maintenance, fund raising, day care and a driver's only program.  Please contact us for more information.

What's Happening at the
Town of Silt Ambulance dba

West Care Ambulance

We here at West Care Ambulance would like to take this opportunity to once again thank everyone for their support of our ambulance service.  During this year's 17th Annual Pig Roast, your donations totaled more than $19,000.  We also have recently received a $5,000 grant from EnCana, A $2,900 grant from the Colorado Rural Health Center, a $2,100 grant from the Colorado Department of Health, and a $750 grant from Sam's Club in Grand Junction.  This money has been used for numerous items, such as our new extrication chairs, which will provide for much safer and more comfortable patient movement up and down stairs.  The money has also paid for new CPR and Advanced Life Support manikins, which allow us to train our staff and the public in life saving skills.  We have also sent one of our staff through EMT school, as well as providing continuing education for our paramedics.  Without the support of the citizens and businesses who donate their time and money to our fund raising events, non of this would have been possible.  Thanks

We would also like to let everyone know that opportunities are available for people who are interested in emergency medicine with West Care Ambulance, from ambulance drivers to paramedics.  We also have classes in CPR, First Aid, and Basic Life Support available to people who would like to learn these techniques but are not able to be a part of the West Care team.

With cold winter weather officially here, we would like to remind everyone of the dangers of hypothermia and frostbite.  These are life threatening injuries that occur frequently in our area.  These injuries are more common in children and the elderly, but can occure in anyone who is outdoors in wintery weather.  A few simple steps can reduce the likelihood of these injuries.

1 Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks if you are going to be outside in the cold:  These drinks reduce the amount of circulation to your extremities and allow you to lose temperature faster.
2.If you start to shiver, seek warm shelter immediately: Shivering is the first sign of the onset of hypothermia.  Do whatever you can to keep yourself from getting any colder.
3.If your clothes are wet, seek warm shelter immediately:  Wet clothes will cause you to lose heat 5 times as fast as someone in dry clothes.  Get somewhere warm and get some dry clothes on fast.
4. If your hands, feet, nose or ears start to tingle or get numb get inside: This is a signal that frostbite is imminent.
Severe hypothermia and frostbite are not injuries you should try to deal with yourself.  Never try to massage a frostbitten body part.  As doing so can cause further damage.  If you suspect either hypothermia or frostbite, call 911 immediately.
We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable winter season.
